Kuala Gandah Elephant Conservation Centre

TIME : 2016/2/17 14:52:56

This is the base for the Department of Wildlife and National Parks’ Elephant Relocation Team, which helps capture rogue elephants from across Southeast Asia and relocate them to other suitable habitats throughout the peninsula, such as Taman Negara. A taxi ride from Temerloh costs RM120 round-trip. You can make a full day of a trip here.

From 10:30am to noon observe elephants (behind an electric fence) on a small interpretive trail. Videos at 1pm and 1:30pm explain the plight of wild elephants (there are fewer than 1200 remaining in Peninsular Malaysia). The elephants get a bath at 2:15pm, and are introduced to the crowd from 2:45pm to 3:15pm. Most of the elephants at the centre are work elephants from Myanmar, India and Thailand. No rides or are offered here.
