Phung Hung House

Phung Hung House

This historic landmark has housed more than eight generations of Vietnamese families over the past 200 years. Built in 1780, rare-wood columns give this striking home its firm foundation and each story offers evidence of specific Asian influences-- Japanese, Chinese and Vietnamese. The third floor even served as refuge for nearby families during severe flooding (so be sure to check for watermarks). The ground level was once a shop for spices and handicrafts. Today, it serves as the family’s living quarters, while the second floor functions as a place to worship their ancestors.

Practical Info:

Phung Hung House is adjacent to the Japanese bridge and next door to the Hoi An Book Shop. It is open daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and accessible only with ticket purchase.
