Playas Frontón & Madama

TIME : 2016/2/18 15:27:08

Preferred by some locals over Playa Rincón, Playa Frontón boasts some of the area’s best snorkeling. Apparently it’s also popular with drug smugglers, Dominicans braving the Mona Passage on their way to Puerto Rico, and reality show contestants – in 2002 Expedición Robinson, Colombia’s version of the reality show Survivor, was filmed here. Playa Madama is a small beach framed by high bluffs; keep in mind there’s not much sunlight here in the afternoon.

Trails lead to both beaches but it's easy to get lost, meaning you should either hire a local guide (contact Karin at La Hacienda ) or, preferably, get to them by boat. Asociación de Lancheros de Las Galeras have now installed fixed prices: RD$2200 to Playa Madama (RD$700 per person with four or more people) and RD$2500 to Playa Frontón (RD$800 per person with four or more). A full-day boat excursion to all the beaches, including Rincón, is RD$5000 (RD$1500 per person with four or more). All prices are roundtrip.
