Gregory of Nin (Grgur Ninski)

Outside of Diocletian's Palace walls near the Golden Gate is the towering landmark of the Bishop Grgur, sculpted by the famous Ivan Mestrovic. Bishop Grgur, or the Gregory of Nin, was a 9th-century bishop who fought to use the old Croatian language in liturgical services. If you look at the left toe of this black sculpture, you'll notice it is bronze from the repeated touches from tourists rubbing it for good luck.
