Johannes Larsen Museet

TIME : 2016/2/18 17:32:26

The vivid naturalistic paintings of wildlife and provincial Danish scenes that flowed from the brush of Johannes Larsen are on show in his former home north of town. Larsen (1867–1961) painted near obsessively from his studio here, while his wife, Alhed, also an artist, captured the lush blooms of her greenhouse.

This is a quality attraction for a town of this size. Beside the house there’s an impressive purpose-built exhibition hall showcasing more of their work, alongside paintings by 50 other artists from the Fyn school. The tiny cafe (in an old washhouse) at the end of the flower- and duck-filled garden serves light lunches and homebaked cakes.
