For a glimpse of the past, head south from Torvet along Søndergade and turn right into Uldgade . The cobbled street has Tønder’s best collection of unique gabled houses. On the main pedestrian street, Drøhses Hus dates from 1672; it’s been meticulously restored and is open to the public, exhibiting lace and arts and crafts. Det Gamle Apotek , beside Torvet, has an elaborate 1671 baroque doorway flanked by two lions that stand guard over the extensive giftshop collection inside.
