Odense Zoo

TIME : 2016/2/18 17:33:28

Denmark’s showpiece zoo borders both banks of the river, 2km south of the city centre. It's an active supporter of conservation and education programs, and its residents include tigers, lions, giraffes, zebras and chimpanzees, plus an ‘oceanium’ with penguins and manatees.

The highlight is the zoo’s Kiwara area, an open space that aims to mimic the African savannah. You can feed giraffes (Dkr70) or take in the views from the upper deck of the excellent visitor centre.

Child-friendly drawcards include a playground and lots of animal-related games. Check the website's calendar for details of feeding times and daily events. Closing time varies – generally from 4pm (winter) to 7pm (summer).

Odense Aafart boats stop at the zoo during peak season. A number of buses run here frequently (40, 42, 51, 52, 151, 152; Dkr23), or you can walk or cycle the 2km-long wooded riverside path that begins at Munke Mose.
