The little village of Tranekær stretches between its church and the salmon-coloured Tranekær Slot, which has been in the hands of one family since 1659 (there's been a fortification here since the 13th century). The castle's interior is only open to the public on tours conducted over two weeks in July (see the website) – but the grounds are open daily and known as Tickon.
