One of England's historic medieval castles, Warwick Castle was originally built by William the Conqueror and has seen the likes of Henry of Anjou and the 16th Earl of Warwick, Richard Neville.

Protected from any architectural changes as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, most of the current layout of the castle was built in the post-medieval era by King Henry the II, with updated fortifications to keep the grounds safe from sieges.

Many of the rooms open to visitors include a historical showcasing of artifacts, including the Armory, State Rooms and the magnificent Great Hall, exhibiting authentic armor from that period. You may also visit Caesar's Tower complete with a dungeon on the lower floor, and the Royal Weekend Party building, which contains wax sculptures of a 19th-century party scene and goers.

Today, Warwick Castle display's charming exhibitions and commonly houses on the premises medieval jousting, archery, falconry and you may even get to see a jester, or piper in full medieval attire.

Practical Info

While the castle is about 2 hours by bus from central London, Warwick station is a mere mile away from the castle if you choose to take the rail from your original destination. The Birmingham International Airport, only 40 minutes away driving, is also another popular choice for those who choose to stay in town to see Warwick.
