Rue des Forges

The Rue des Forges is one of Dijon's most characteristic streets. If you're new to the city, it should be one of your first stops; at 34 Rue des Forges, you will find the tourist office, from which you can get valuable literature to help you make the most of your stay. Along this route, you will find a number of fantastic mansions, including hôtel Morel-Sauvegrain, the hôtel Auriot and the Milsand house, famous for their 15th-century facades, as well as the hôtel Chambellan, known for the decorated staircase in its interior courtyard staircase.
Notre-Dame, the most famous church in Dijon, is also along this street; not only is this 13th-century church's Gothic architecture a must-see, but nearby are a number of tourists shops where you can find macaroons, wine and English books. Mustard shops are also along this street, and in November when the city holds its annual gastronomic fair, the Rue des Forges is the place to be.
Also near the Rue des Forges: the Ducal Palace. While this is an attraction in itself, its east wing contains the Musee des Beaux-Arts, the collection of which includes medieval and Renaissance sculpture and paintings (representing both the Italian and Northern Renaissances).
