Befreiungshalle

TIME : 2016/2/18 19:38:51

Perched on a hill above the Danube, this mustard-coloured tankard of a building is the Befreiungshalle . Erected in 1863, it's an outrageous piece of Bavarian nationalism ordered by King Ludwig I to commemorate the victories over Napoleon (1813-15). Inside you'll find a veritable shrine lorded over by white marble angels modelled on the Roman goddess Victoria.
