The Agora Museum, in the reconstructed Stoa of Attalos, is a good place to start to make sense of the Ancient Agora site. The museum has a model of the Agora as well as a collection of finds from the site. The magnificent Stoa of Attalos is a two-storied stoa (covered walkway or portico), built by King Attalos II of Pergamum (159–138 BC). It served as the first-ever shopping arcade. It has 45 Doric columns on the ground floor and Ionic columns on the upper. Originally, its facade was painted red and blue. People gathered here every four years to watch the Panathenaic Procession.
