Frankel Leó Út

TIME : 2016/2/18 20:13:45

At Bem József tér, Fő utca, the busy main drag in Víziváros, becomes Frankel Leó út, a quiet, tree-lined street with two spas at its southern end: the very serious Lukács Baths and the newly opened Veli Bej Baths. A short distance north and tucked away in an apartment block is the Újlak Synagogue , built in 1888 on the site of an older prayer house and still in use.

About 2km to northeast and beside the landmark Aquincum Hotel is the much larger Óbuda Synagogue , built in 1821. For many years it housed Hungarian TV (MTV) sound studios, but it's now functioning at least part-time as a súl (Jewish prayer house). Phone ahead to visit the interior.
