Kerepesi Cemetery

TIME : 2016/2/18 20:14:33

Budapest’s equivalent of London's Highgate or Paris' Père Lachaise, this 56-hectare necropolis was established in 1847 and holds some 3000 gravestones and mausoleums, including those of statesmen and national heroes Lajos Kossuth, Ferenc Deák and Lajos Batthyány. Maps indicating the location of noteworthy graves are available free at the entrance, and the Piety Museum , within the cemetery, provides insights into the nation's approach to death. Plot 21 contains the graves of many who died in the 1956 Uprising.
