Debrecen had a Jewish population of 12,000 people up to the end of WWII. The Status Que Conservative Synagogue , just south of Bajcsy-Zsilinszky utca, dates from 1909. The facade of the older 1893 Orthodox synagogue has had a lick of paint but its interior is still waiting for a much-needed renovation.
