Chiesa di San Maurizio

TIME : 2016/2/18 20:44:06

The 16th-century royal chapel and convent of San Maurizio is Milan's hidden crown jewel, every inch of it covered in breathtaking frescoes, several of them executed by Bernardino Luini who worked with Leonardo. Many of the frescoes immortalise Ippolita Sforza, Milanese literary maven, and other members of the powerful Sforza clan.

Duck through a small doorway on the left to enter the secluded convent hall where blissful martyred saints bear their tribulations serenely – note St Lucia calmly holding her lost eyes, and St Agata casually carrying her breasts on a platter.
