Chiesa di San Marcuola

TIME : 2016/2/18 21:09:12

The right hand of John the Baptist was once housed in this church founded in the 9th century, but the church burned in the 14th century, and what you see was cobbled together (and not quite completed) in the 18th century by architects Giorgio Massari and Antonio Gaspari. Inside is Tintoretto’s 1547 Last Supper, with Christ and apostles ominously spotlit against a black background in what looks like a mystery theatre version of the New Testament story.
