Museum of Amalia Rodrigues (Fundacao Amalia Rodrigues Casa Museu)

Amália Rodrigues is one of Portugal’s most beloved artists and public figures, an icon of fado music. Following her death in 1999, her three story former residence was turned into a museum that has become a testament to her legacy. Visitors can view her portraits and wardrobe of pieces from famous performances, and listen to some of her finest recordings.
Three main rooms (living room, dining room, bedroom) showcase both a professional side, with tributes and artifacts of fado, and a personal side, with many items Rodrigues used when she was alive. The collection of musical instruments, jewelry, costumes, and awards make it almost seem like she is still in residence there.  Whether a fan of Amalia’s, a fado enthusiast, or simply interested in an important facet of Portuguese culture, the museum offers insight into a famous voice of Portugal.
