Museu del Disseny de Barcelona

TIME : 2016/2/19 1:27:30

Barcelona's design museum lies inside a new monolithic building with geometric facades and a rather brutalist appearance – unkindly nicknamed la grapadora (the stapler) by locals. The museum, expected to open by early 2015, will house a dazzling collection of ceramics, decorative arts and textiles, taken from its old location in the Palau Reial de Pedralbes.

Among the highlights, you'll find Spanish ceramics from the 10th to 20th centuries, including work by Picasso and Miró. Another section will house an eclectic assortment of furnishings, ornaments and knick-knacks dating as far back as the Romanesque period. Exquisite textiles ranging from 4th-century Coptic works to 20th-century local embroidery will segue into clothing dating from the 16th century to the 1930s. There will also be exhibitions devoted to graphic art.
