Pop across the German border to this dazzling design museum adjoining the factory complex of famous furniture manufacturer Vitra. The main building, designed by Guggenheim Bilbao architect Frank Gehry, is surrounded by an ever-expanding bevy of installations by other cutting-edge architects. Watch contemporary furniture being made (and purchase it) at the adjoining VitraHaus, or hurtle down Carsten Höller's whimsical, corkscrewing 38m-long Vitra Slide , inaugurated in 2014. Catch bus 55 from Kleinbasel's Claraplatz to the Vitra stop (25 minutes).
