Yakutiye Medrese

Rising above a central square, this imposing Mongol theological seminary dates from 1310. The Mongols borrowed the basics of Seljuk architecture and developed their own variations, as seen in the entrance with its geometric, plant and animal motifs. Of the two original minarets, only the base of one and the lower part of the other have survived. The one sporting superb mosaic tilework wouldn't look out of place in Central Asia.
