Housed in the former guildhall, the Dylan Thomas Centre contains an absorbing exhibition on the poet's life and work. Entitled Man and Myth, it pulls no punches in examining the propensity of 'the most quoted author after Shakespeare' for puffing up his own myth; he was eventually trapped in the legend of his own excessive drinking. Aside from the collection of memorabilia and a video documentary, what really brings his work to life is a series of recordings, including the booming baritone of Richard Burton performing Under Milk Wood and Thomas himself reading Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night, the celebrated paean to his dying father. The centre runs a high-powered program of talks, drama and workshops.
