Eastern Orthodox Christians believe that this spring – whose actual source lies under the nearby Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation – was the site of the Annunciation (al-Bishara in Arabic). The structure known as Mary's Well is a modern reconstruction and the water does not actually come from Mary’s Spring. The litter, however, is genuine.
