This rare vestige of pre-oil times away from Dubai Creek was built in 1955. Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed al Maktoum, the mastermind of modern Dubai, spent summer afternoon here in rooms cooled by the sea breezes. It's a traditional two-story structure made of gypsum and coral with a palm frond roof, a wind tower and window shutters carved from East African timber. The palm garden features a traditional falaj irrigation system.
