Home to some of Hawaii’s endangered wildlife, this refuge claims sweeping views from atop the sea cliffs, where you’ll also find a1913 lighthouse . You can occasionally glimpse breaching whales in winter and spinner dolphins year-round offshore. Red-footed boobies, Pacific golden plovers, red-tailed and white-tailed tropic birds and Laysan albatrosses are among the birds spotted here, along with nene, the endangered Hawaiian goose. You’ll also spy Mokuʻaeʻae Island , which is teeming with more protected wildlife.

To get here, turn seaward onto Kolo Rd, then take a left onto Kilauea (Lighthouse) Rd and follow it for about 2 miles through town to the end.
