Kakahaia Park is a grassy strip wedged between the road and sea in Kawela, just west of mile marker 6. It has a couple of picnic tables, and is a peaceful spot for a leg stretch or snack. This park is the only part of Kakahai'a National Wildlife Refuge open to the public.
