A supremely kid-friendly learning center thats a joy for budding entomologists. The Japanese garden dotted with whispering butterflies is particularly beautiful.

Historic Boardwalk
Continue 200 feet south of the boat harbor to Seldovias historic boardwalk. Overlooking the slough, this atmospheric collection of shops and inns is worth a quick stroll.

Hill Annex Mine State Park
In Calumet, it offers open-pit tours and an exhibit center. Tours are held in summertime only, on Friday and Saturday; theres also a fossil tour both days at 10am.

Hershbergers Farm & Bakery
Gorge on 25 kinds of pie, homemade ice-cream cones and seasonal produce from the market inside. Pet the farmyard animals (free) and take pony rides ($3) outside.

In Fort Barry, refurbished barracks converted into artist work spaces host open studios with its artists-in-residence, as well as talks, performances and other events.
