Retail Landmark

Ogilvy has been a Montreal institution since the original dry goods store opened in 1866. The current store, nicknamed the "Queen of Catherine Street," opened in 1912. Ogilvy's history is tied to that of Montreal and the small display on the fifth floor provides a fascinating glimpse at the city's past, from an unusual perspective. Items include a photograph of Martin Luther King, Jr. when he performed at Ogilvy with other singers from the Morehouse Glee Club. Also on the fifth floor is Tudor Hall, a historic wood-paneled concert space—if it's not being used for a private event, ask an Ogilvy employee if you can take a peak. Ogilvy isn't just of historic interest—leading international designers as well as Canadian labels are well represented if you want to do some shopping.
