Just outside the Parque-Museo La Venta entrance, the small Museo de Historia Natural has good displays on dinosaurs, space, early humanity and Tabascan ecosystems (all in Spanish).

The chapel at the Parador-Museo Santa María is a religious art museum with an interesting array of colonial-era work from Europe and the Philippines as well as Mexico and Guatemala.

Tlacotalpan is well known for its locally made cedar furniture. Drop by this office/workshop to see it being made, and to see some of the finished products on display as well.

Museo del Valle de Tehuacán
The Museo del Valle de Tehuacán explains in Spanish some of the archaeological discoveries, and exhibits tiny preserved corn cobs thought to be among the first ever cultivated.

A pulpit for folk art including a slightly faded collection of masks, mojigangas (giant puppets), musical instruments, baskets, and wood and ceramic sculpture from every state in Mexico.

El Salto
These massive falls, just outside the reaches of the Reserva de la Biosfera Sierra de Manantlán, gush over granite and tumble 10m into a crystalline pool, which licks a pebble beach.

Lago Arareko
The waters of this twisting, bluish-green lake reflect the surrounding pines and rocks, sits beside the Cusárare road 8km from Creel. Rowboats can be rented out for M$50 by the lakeshore.

Torre BBVA Bancomer
Across from the Torre Mayor is the Torre BBVA Bancomer, a banks 50-storey skyscraper that became Mexicos tallest building upon its completion in 2015, with sky gardens every nine floors.

Tribuna Monumental de las Águilas
This Fallen Eagle Monument, known also as el Tribuna Monumental is an obelisk dedicated to fallen Mexican soldiers who joined the Allies in the battle of Escuadrón 201 in World War II.

Templo Santa Eduviges
The sanctuary at the Templo Santa Eduviges, built in 1726, is usually packed with worshippers and, during Mass, perfumed with clouds of sandalwood smoke. Its just south of the main market.

Parque de los Tecajetes
Another dense, jungle-like nature park where you’ll forget you’re in the city. It’s 1km from the center on Avenida Ávila Camacho. Joggers and walkers enjoy rustic paths and stone aqueducts.

Instituto de Cultura de Baja California
The Instituto de Cultura de Baja California, on the southern side of Parque Hidalgo, has art exhibits, films and other cultural events. Its a source of local pride and well worth a peek.

Casa Purcell
This gallery is located in a wonderful English neo-Gothic style 19th-century mansion. Besides temporary art exhibits, Casa Purcell hosts semi-regular rock concerts and art-house films.

Santa Elena Museum
This small museum perched on a hill is dedicated to a gruesome find – 18th-century child mummies found buried beneath the adjoining cathedral. There are also some henequén -related exhibits.

Santuario de Nuestra Señora del Carmen
The Santuario de Nuestra Señora del Carmen - facing the small plaza on the corner of Av Juárez and 8 de Julio - is lovely with lots of gold leaf, old paintings and murals in the dome.
