All shady oaks, cooing pigeons and snoozing students, Princes Sq once hosted military drills, public hangings and rowdy political meetings. The bronze fountain here was purchased at the 1855 Paris Exhibition. There’s also a statue of the top-hatted Dr William Russ Pugh, the first surgeon in the southern hemisphere to use general anaesthetic.
