About three-quarters of the population of Borroloola is Indigenous, and the town鈥檚 colourful history is displayed at the Borroloola Museum , within the 1887 police station.

Kangaroo Island Spirits
This fiesty little moonshiner makes small-batch gin with KI native juniper berries, plus vodka, brandy and liqueurs (pray the organic honey-and-walnut version hasnt sold out).
Junee Hotel
The Junee Hotel was built in 1876. The pub hasn鈥檛 had a lot done to it over the years, but that means the original fittings are still intact. Cheap pub rooms are available.
John Temple Gallery
Exhibits inspiring, large-format landscape photographs by this top Tasmanian photographer. Sometimes closed if John is out on a field trip: call ahead or check the website.
Hogarth Falls
This is a pleasant 50-minute return walk through the rainforest beside platypus-inhabited Botanical Creek. The track starts at People鈥檚 Park, off the Esplanade opposite Risby Cove.
Tyntyndyer Homestead
Tyntyndyer Homestead , 16km north of town, has a small museum and many reminders of the hardships of colonial life, such as the wine cellar! Visit at other times by appointment.
Lodge
While it is not open to the public, you can sneak a peek through the gates of the prime minister鈥檚 official residence, the Lodge . Scrivener Dam lookout gives a good view of it.
Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve
Located 45km southwest of Canberra, with bushwalking and wildlife including kangaroos and emus, and platypuses and lyrebirds at dusk. Check online for ranger-guided activities.
Strzelecki Regional Reserve
Meandering through the sand hills of the Strzelecki Regional Reserve, the Strzelecki Track spans 460km from Lyndhurst, 80km south of Marree, to the tiny outpost of Innamincka.
St Andrews Uniting (Presbyterian) Church
This historic church on High St, with its sturdy Doric columns and a classical bell tower, opened for worship in 1839. It鈥檚 a much-admired example of Greek revival architecture.
Loxton Historic Village
Down by the river, the mildly kitsch (but nonetheless interesting) Loxton Historic Village is a re-created time warp of 45 dusty, rusty old buildings and old country curios.
The Grotto
A short drive on from London Bridge, another recommended stop is the Grotto, with steep stairs leading down to its hollowed out cave-like formation where waves crash through.
Old Post Office
Built in 1896 and housing a small local museum. Guided walks run by volunteers from the heritage society depart from here.
Dog Rock
This large rock resembles a dogs head (the locals have even painted on a dog collar to reinforce the point). The Minang believed the dog had been decapitated by an angry Wargal.
Horsham Regional Art Gallery
This impressive gallery houses the Mack Jost Collection of significant Australian artists, including works by Rupert Bunny, Sir Sidney Nolan, John Olsen and Charles Blackman.
Coalseam Conservation Park
Coalseam Conservation Park, 34km northeast of Mingenew on the Irwin River, has everlastings (paper daisies), a short loop walk, and ancient fossil shells embedded in the cliffs.
Baldwin Swamp
Some 3km from the city centre is BaldwinSwamp , an 87-hectare wetland reserve of lagoons and forest filled with birds, trees, loads of bandicoots and other furry night-time friends.
Albany Wind Farm
En route to Whale World, about 12km from Albany, stop off to take a look at the Albany Wind Farm , the biggest in the southwest and an eerily striking sight as you get closer.
