Bora Bora

Just looking at the map you already know Bora Bora must be something special: an island embraced by a lagoon and guarded by motus (islets). This pearl of the Pacific is renowned as one of the most beautiful tropical islands on Earth. Consequently it’s hardly a budget destination – visitors tend to be well-heeled or splashing out on a once-in-a-lifetime experience, such as a honeymoon.

Apart from the Lagoonarium, there are very few conventional “sights” on Bora Bora; the island itself, with its warm, iridescent waters and soft white sands, is the sight. But if you can’t take any more lazing on the beach, you can always go snorkeling, scuba-diving, wind-surfing, jet-skiing or yachting.

Practical Info

Flights land on the northernmost motu (islet), where ferries are waiting to take you to your resort, usually on other motus. The main island itself, dominated by dramatic volcanic peaks, is sparsely populated and only has one ring road.
