Arahoho Blowhole (Trou de Souffleur de Arahoho)

Located in Tiarei, Arahoho Blowhole is one of Tahiti's most popular roadside attractions. A lavatube or tunnel that opens into the sea, the geological oddity was created by liquid lava flowing under cold and hard lava. When water crashes into the tunnel, the air inside gets compressed causing a powerful sea geyser effect as the water shoots out through a hole in the rocks.

In fact, the water splashes over to the viewing platform wetting curious onlookers. Try to go on a day when the water is rough and the waves are bigger for the full effect. It's worth a visit to this area not only to see the blowhole, but also to check out the local surfers catching waves and the nearby black sand beaches littered with palm trees and surrounded by azure waters.
