Experiencing a real adventure has become increasingly difficult in today’s world. In years gone by, one of the most common dangers of a trip to the wilderness was to encounter wild animals; nowadays it’s nearly impossible to meet creatures of any kind.

Recently, however, wildlife watching has found a valuable ally in modern technology through a newly-coined method known as digiscoping. This technology combines the sharpness of a long-lens digital camera with the depth of field of a telescope, so that humans may observe wild animals from never before possible distances, without disturbing them. This allows captures such as the young deer in this photograph, spotted in the tall grass in Mugello, an area of Tuscany, Italy, still untouched by mass tourism.
