Lufthansa Spelling out Passenger Rights When Flights Are Delayed!

TIME : 2016/3/18 11:53:04
Every business needs to be as transparent as possible in its transactions with its customers. In doing so, they also need to educate the customers about their rights so that in case the business is at fault, which invariably happens sometimes, the customer knows exactly what to do in such a scenario.

If and when these inconvenient instances like delays, cancellations and denial to board do occur, the passenger has every right to know what his compensation will be, and Lufthansa not only compensates the passengers well, but also makes sure they are aware of their rights by clearly spelling it out to them.

Some rules that apply to passengers are that the ticket should be valid with a confirmed seat reservation, and if the ticket was bought fairly, and if the passenger presents himself in time at the airport for the check in procedures.

Lufthansa also spells out the rules that apply to delays in flights and which flights may be termed as delayed so as to avoid any discrepancy or confusion. Flights with a total distance of 3500kms or more to be covered are termed as delayed if they are late by 4 hours, flights which travel between 1500kms to 3500kms are termed as delayed if they are 3 hours late, and for flights which travel up to 1500kms the delay time is 2 hours.

In case a flight is delayed, Lufthansa promises to take care of its passengers by providing food and refreshments, even providing hotel accommodation when required. The airline also maintains that transfers to hotels and back to the airport will be paid for by the airline.

Passengers have also been promised two phone calls, which understandably must be kept as brief as possible, and even sending to free faxes and emails, again brief ones. The airline however specifies that in case a demand of the passenger has the potential to cause further delay, such a request may be declined.

Lufthansa also specifies that in case a flight is delayed for more than 5 hours, passengers have the right for a refund within a period of a week. The airline also recognizes and acknowledges the inconvenience that may be caused to passengers and hence maintains that in case the flight loses its purpose the airline will completely refund the ticket even if the passenger has flown a distance on it, and also promises to book a return flight for the passenger to his original point of departure in case such a scenario should present itself.

Acknowledging its shortcomings, even if they are due to some unavoidable circumstances, Lufthansa is a true professional when it comes to owning up and compensating for its mistakes.
