Australia's top 5 luxury lodges

TIME : 2016/2/26 13:51:31

While Australia is no stranger to luxurious accommodation options, some stand out head and shoulders above the rest. Here are five of my personal favourites from around the country, from iconic properties in the Great Barrier Reef, to lesser-visited but equally impressive lodges in Tasmania.

Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa, the Blue Mountains

40 stunning suites, each with a private deck and temperature controlled swimming pool, make up Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa. Sitting in 4,000 acres of protected conservation land in the heart of the Blue Mountains a stay at this property also includes a number of activities such as horse riding, mountain biking and nature walks. The budding wine connoisseur will appreciate the opportunity to sample the hand-picked selection of locally produced wines including lesser known vineyard regions of Mudgee and Orange, while those simply wishing to relax in their breathtaking surroundings will find the property’s Timeless spa a peaceful haven of tranquility and calm.

Qualia, Hamilton Island

No visit to Australia is complete without a trip to the world-famous Great Barrier Reef and none of the islands are better equipped for visitors than Hamilton, home to the exquisite Qualia.Situated on the quieter northern tip of the island Qualia offers the ultimate in luxury with a private beach, and each of the 60 pavilions have the use of their own electric buggy should guests choose to explore the island further. In addition, the property’s Winward Pavillions have private plunge pools whilst the Leeward Pavillions offer large decks just perfect for enjoying a sun-downer.

Southern Ocean Lodge, Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island is often described as Australia’s Galapagos and this is a wonderful place to visit for the wildlife enthusiast; koalas, seals and kangaroos can be found in abundance, whilst echidnas possums and platypus can also be seen. The island is also home to Southern Ocean Lodge, Australia’s first true luxury lodge and a place where spectacular views, world-class service and wonderful design go hand-in-hand. While here you’ll also be treated to personalised and fully guided adventures which allow you to take full advantage of the spectacular surroundings at your own pace.

Southern Ocean Lodge

Capella Lodge, Lord Howe Island

For those wanting a luxurious but uninterrupted experience, Capella Lodge on Lord Howe Island is an inspired choice. Visitor numbers to the island are limited meaning the island is never congested, leaving you to enjoy your World Heritage surroundings at a relaxed pace. The lodge itself is Lord Howe’s premium accommodation choice and you can expect a stylish and sophisticated escape with first class cuisine and a service that is second to none.

Capella Lodge

Saffire, Freycinet National Park

The view across Oyster Bay from Saffire are truly breathtaking. Positioned in a discreet hillside location in the Freycinet National Park, Tasmania, the property has just 20 suites that offer spacious and contemporary living. For those who venture to Tasmania’s shores, Saffire presents the most luxurious choice of accommodation; the property’s premium suites boast plunge pools and dining rooms where the house chef will be happy to serve delicious meals prepared to order.
