Eating out in Batam Indonesia

TIME : 2016/2/25 13:57:42

Batam is popular with Singaporeans, so its no surprise there is a food court. The desk staff at my hotel advised me to go to Windsor Food Court, which was a bit of an adventure. In Batam the taxis do not have meters. If you take a taxi from your hotel the prices will be higher than picking on up on the street. Many locals will offer their services as a taxi for hire, all you have to do is agree on a price.

Windsor Food Court really belongs in Singapore. The football field-sized place is covered with tables, food stall lining the perimeter. As soon as I arrived a beer-maid representing Heineken came over and sold me a large bottle for 16,000rp. My dinner was soto ayam (chicken soup) and fried chicken with rice. It was filing, the soup delicious and cost 39,000rp for the main course. The majority of the other diners were Chinese Singaporeans, although the table next to me had 3 local guys who had 10 empty large Carlsberg bottles on their table.

Fresh seafood was available and for people who to sit and gorge with friends, this place is the ticket!
