Bamboo / Gong Corner still a winner in Kuta Bali

TIME : 2016/2/25 14:10:56

Looking for cheap food and drink? Look no furthur than Gong Corner and Bamboo Corner, located on Gang Ronta and Poppies I in Kuta.

This evening I was heading down to Kuta, and in need of a large Bintang and food. I could spend 50,000rp in Ryoshi, but I’d rather spend 7,000rp for nasi gorreng ayam at Gong Corner.

Tonight the place is 50% full, mostly Euro’s conversing in some Scandinavian gobbledigook. Bamboo and Gong Corner belong in ‘The Beach, Bali’ (Leonard Di Caprio) if they ever make that movie, along with Warung 96. Sitting here brings back the old backpacking spirit.

Breakfast lunch and dinner are served here, all at rock bottom prices. Looking at the offering on the wall, I see a T-bone steak advertised for 15,000rp, fried squid for the same, pork picata zigara for 16,000rp and crab for 27,500rp (that’s $3!).

An artist from Ubud was flogging his artwork in the warung. Poor bugger spent 10 minutes with me, which resulted in $0.

You really can’t lose here and this time of year is a special bonus for me, mango lassis. November is mango season and a mango lassi goes for 7,000rp, fruit juices 4,000rp. Come down to Bamboo / Gong Corner in Kuta and stuff your face!
