The 5-Star Hotel Granvia Kyoto is strategically located at the Kyoto Station and offers very easy for access to everywhere around Kyoto. The 535 room hotel has an indoor swimming pool, fitness center, and numerous restaurants, bars and cafes.

The staff throughout the hotel are very friendly, warm and helpful. The concierges were outstanding in helping us get around, making suggestions for activities, and making restaurant reservations.

Rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable with large windows and comes standard with extra-long beds. Maybe not American sized but still it was nice to have a bed that fit taller folk. Rooms come with a LCD TV and a stylish bathroom with minibar and an electric kettle.  All children under six years stay free of charge when using existing beds.

We loved the old world charm of this hotel captured in all the pictures, paintings and furnishings throughout. There are over 1,000 art works, nice to see this retention of history in a modern hotel.

The Hotel Granvia fitness facility, steam room, swimming pool and hot tub are nice but there is a fee to access them which would have been nice if it had been included in the price of the room. On the other hand, it does limit the number of people using the facilities so you can have a good workout and swim laps with minimal disruption.

Cafe Restaurant Le Temps serves light dishes, La Fleur caters French cuisine and a range of restaurants in the hotel offer Japanese specialities. There is also a Chinese restaurant called Roppongi Rogairo specializing in Hangzhou, China cuisine. The buffet breakfast is excellent and everyone gave it rave reviews.

JR Kyoto Station is huge so it can be tricky to reach the hotel once you arrive by train. When arriving by the Shinkansen bullet train, exit via the Shinkansen Main Exit, turn right and walk straight through Nanboku-Jiyu-Tsuro (North-to-South main corridor) until you reach the escalator to the hotel entrance on your right. When using the Haruka Express from Kansai International Airport, exit via the JR Chuo Main Exit and take the escalator on your right to the Lobby on the 2nd floor of the hotel.

The hotel has a retail boutique but being located in the Kyoto Station opens up wonderful shopping options, including Isetan Department Store, The Cube and Porta Shopping Malls and is close to Takashimaya Department Store Shijo.

Sanjusangen-do Temple and Nishihongan-ji Temple are less than a 10 minute drive away or can be easily accessed through bus and train departing from Kyoto Station.

Kyoto’s Gion district, Pontocho and Shijo Kawara-machi areas are a 5 minute subway ride away and Nijo Castle, Toji Temple and Kiyomizudera Temple are all accessed under 15 minutes by train or bus from the Granvia Kyoto Hotel.
