A while back, I compiled a list of some of the best rooftop bars in Bangkok. With the dynamic nature of the drinking and dining scene in the Thai capital, there always seem to be new contenders popping up that should be included. With that in mind, let me introduce you to the Eagle’s Nest. It might not be the bar with the highest viewpoint in Bangkok, but what it lacks in height it more than makes up for in looks. Nestled down a quiet soi in the historic Rattanakosin district of old Bangkok, the Eagle’s Nest rewards visitors with views of three of the most famous locations in the Thai capital: Wat Arun, Wat Pho and Wat Phra Kaeo.
The Eagle’s Nest features a deck area where customers can enjoy unobstructed views of the Chao Phraya river and Wat Arun as they sip on their cocktails. Moving further back towards the bar area, sumptuous sofas and cushions provide the perfect place to unwind and take in the peaceful backdrop of Wat Pho with its gleaming chedis piercing the Bangkok air. The buildings in the local neighbourhood slightly obscure some of the views, especially of the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew, but the contrast between ancient and modern buildings adds to the ambience and still makes for an impressive sight.
The Eagle’s Nest is located on the top floor of the Sala Arun hotel (see map below for directions). Enter the lobby of the hotel and take the twisting wooden staircase that leads to the rooftop deck area.

On previous visits, I’ve noticed this bar seems to be busiest in the lead up to sunset with some people here mainly for the photo opportunities rather than the range of drinks and snacks on offer. Sunsets here can be delightful with the sun dipping behind Wat Arun on the opposite bank of the Chao Phraya River, but it’s a wonderful location at any time to take in the views of Bangkok’s historic temples.

The side street where the hotel is located can be easy to miss. On Mahraj Road you will see Arom D restaurant which is at the entrance to the small lane you need to go down. As you walk down towards the river, Sala Arun is the orange-coloured hotel at the end of the lane.
