Thai Sabai Sabai Cocktail

TIME : 2016/2/24 18:32:16

Thai Sabai Sabai cocktailThis particular cocktail is made with Mekhong Thai spirit, but if you want to try your hand at making it and don’t have Mekhong to hand you can always experiment with other spirits like gin, bourbon or rum. The recipe in the picture is slightly different to that on the (which is the recipe I’ve used below) so you can mix and match to your own particular tastes and preferences.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 shots of Mekhong Thai spirit
  • 1 1/2 shots of freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • a 3/4 shot of simple sugar syrup
  • a pinch of sweet Thai basil (chopped roughly)
  • club soda

Preparation

Take a mixing glass and pour in the Mekhong (or substitute spirit). Add all of the other ingredients with the exception of the club soda. Then add some ice cubes and shake vigorously for 7 or 8 seconds to blend the mixture. Use a cocktail strainer to pour the drink into a chilled cocktail glass or long glass and top-up with a splash of club soda. Garnish with a sprig of Thai basil.

In the Thai language, ‘sabai sabai’ means comfortable, relaxed or at ease and if you like the idea of the Sabai Sabai cocktail, you may also like the Siam Sunray cocktail.
