Less than 10 miles west of Downton, Clayton is an upmarket district and retail therapy heaven, with a choice of malls nearby. St. Louis Galleria is a modern, vast shopping space, with a huge variety of high street brand stores represented. It also has numerous restaurants and a multiplex cinema to keep you fed and entertained. Nearby Plaza Frontenac is St. Louis’ premier upscale shopping destination, with top designer boutiques and exclusive jewelers occupying the elegant mall. There’s also a cinema and a spa to make it a thoroughly relaxing shopping experience.
Lafayette Square
An affluent, leafy neighborhood built around beautiful Lafayette Park, this small area just south of Downtown is a shopping delight. It has a small but luxurious selection of independent boutiques. Take your time perusing bijou art galleries and designer craft shops, and find that unique St. Louis treasure to hang on you wall or put on your mantelpiece. If all the shopping becomes too wearing, take a break in one of the chic cafés or relaxing spas in the area.
Cherokee Street
In between all the Mexican taquerias, Cherokee Street manages to fit in a plentiful selection of antiques and specialty shops. It makes the street one of the liveliest in St. Louis, and even if you only visit for the quaint buildings, flamboyant Latino street art, or a breakfast taco, you’ll soon be drawn in to the intriguing shops. Many are independently owned, and from shabby chic furniture to rare edition musical instruments there’s sure to be something you just won’t be able to resist.
Delmar Loop
Located close to the university, the Delmar Loop has a distinct, student-led quirkiness. With a ton of cheap restaurants serving healthy, vegan, and ethnic fare – not to mention delicious root beer floats – it's got a breezy, buzzing atmosphere. Fashionistas will be kept happy with a glut of vintage boutiques to rifle through, while old school music fans will be treated to St. Louis’ best vinyl record stores.
