First Fridays Celebrate Art in VegasLooking to add a little culture to your Vegas weekend? Why not give the monthly First Friday arts festival a try.

Centered in the city’s art district at Main and Charleston, just north of the Strip, this 4-year old festival features the work of more than 100 artists displayed in a variety of shops and galleries in the neighborhood. Simply print out a map online and stroll around visiting the various participants and their offerings. Parking in the area is plentiful (the city suspends meter regulations for the evening) and if your feet get tired, catch a ride on one of the three free trolleys.

Later in the evening, downtown area bars like Beauty Bar and Brass Lounge get in on the action, hosting companion First Friday events. Other locations throughout the festival route will offer live entertainment, as well.

It costs nothing to wander around the First Friday art festival, but if you donate $10 or $25 as a “Friend of First Friday,” you get member card good for discounts at participating stores, restaurants and bars.

Upcoming First Fridays take place tonight, August 3, then again on September 7 and October 5. Hours for the monthly festival are 6pm until 10pm. with some of the bar events running longer. For future dates, a list of participants, or more information, visit www.firstfriday-lasvegas.org.
