Savvy visitors who frequent Tucson's Lost Barrio shopping district know to arrive in a large vehicle or pickup.

It's not uncommon to fall in love with, say, an antique Moroccan staircase while browsing the dozen or so furnishings and antiques shops.

Though the block-long district began its shift from industrial to retail 20 years ago, it recently blossomed with the opening of new boutiques such as Studio Encanto (closed Sun; 300 S. Park Ave.; 520/624-1133), a stylish mix of modern pieces and European antiques, and Bohemia (299 S. Park; 520/882-0800), an eclectic collection of hand-painted furniture and ceramics.

While you're there, visit Colonial Frontiers (244 S. Park; 520/622-7400), filled to the rafters with imported antique furniture and folk art, then recharge with espresso from Tooley's Cafe ($; breakfast and lunch Tue-Sun; 299 S. Park).

Driving a Mini? Most shops offer shipping or delivery.

Info: Lost Barrio is located along S. Park Ave., 2 miles from downtown Tucson.
