Cheap Hostels in Vancouver

TIME : 2016/2/25 14:25:38

Budget travellers will find plenty of affordable hostel options in Vancouver–even near the city centre, where accommodation costs can be steep.

Some of the hostels in Vancouver cater to a younger crowd, while others offer family-worthy digs as pleasant as a good budget hotel–but at an even lower price. Some offer amenities such as free breakfast and wi-fi, while others are bare-bones. And some Vancouver hostels have private rooms (with private bathrooms no less) while others embody the communal spirit of hostelling.

If you’re on a tight budget, check out some of these hosteling options in Vancouver:

The 220-room SameSun Backpacker Lodge is the largest hostel in Vancouver, offering dorm, quad and private rooms (some ensuite), laundry and kitchen facilities, free wi-fi internet access, games area, guest lockers, outdoor patio, free breakfast and an onsite restaurant/lounge where beers are $4.50. Dorm rooms start at $27, with private double rooms the best value at $72 per night. The hostel is located on bustling (and dare we say noisy) Granville Street, close to bars and restaurants.

Just across the street from SameSun, the central location of Hostelling International offers free breakfast and wi-fi, limited cooking facilities and organized group activities. Dorm beds go for $35 each while double rooms are $93 per room.

C&N Backpackers offers bike rentals, a low-cost breakfast, laundry facilities, organized activities, and a location close to a SkyTrain station near False Creek. It’s one of the oldest hostels in Vancouver and offers dorm rooms for $20 and private doubles for $50.

The downtown location of a second Hostelling International outpost offers free breakfast, linens, towels and blankets, as well as free wi-fi. It’s located in the residential West End, near Davie Street and close to Stanley Park and ferries to Granville Island. Beds in quad dorms are $32, and private twin rooms go for about $80 per night. Facilities include a games room, library, and a TV room with cable.

Boasting a “sex room,” a “torture room for drunks” and banning anyone over the age of 35, the American Backpackers definitely caters to a specific crowd. If that’s you or if you’re on an ungodly small budget and aren’t picky about where you stay, you may want to check out this party hostel’s $10 dorm beds (singles are $25, doubles are $35). Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Both the Cambie Gastown Hostel and the Cambie Seymour Hostel cater to backpackers under 35 and offer kitchen facilities, free internet access, and free coffee and muffins each morning. Quad and double dorm beds at each go for $26-$28 per bed. All rooms have shared bathrooms.
