Film City (Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagri)

Film City (or Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagri) is located in Goregaon in western Mumbai. Established in the late seventies to help the Bollywood film industry flourish, Film City is one of the largest film studios in India. This sprawling complex spans over 300 acres and features numerous indoor studios plus elaborate outdoor settings, including garden and mountain locations plus large-scale towns and villages.
The Indian film industry is one of the largest in the world and the studios at Film City were constructed by the Maharashtra government to facilitate its growth. Now synonymous with Bollywood, it’s said that almost 1000 sets can be used simultaneously here. The studios have become a popular day trip for Bollywood film fans and curious international tourists alike. Visitors enjoy the behind-the-scenes peek into the film industry where the lines between reality and fiction become blurred on a tour around some incredibly elaborate and realistic film sets.
