St Andrew’s Church

St Andrew’s Church

Since 1821, St. Andrew’s Church—often referred to as The Kirk—has stood as an homage to early Scottish Presbyterians who resided in what was then known as Madras and sought a refuge for worship that reminded them of home.
Today, travelers flock to this iconic Christian church, where an impressive dome covered in crushed sea shells and lapis familiar Neo-Classical features and brightly colored stained glass windows showcase early European influences. The church’s famous pipe organ, a highlight of any visit to St. Andrew’s, was even constructed in England before being installed in the late 1800s.

Practical Info

The church is located at 37, Poonamallee High Road in Egmore Chennai. It is accessible via the Egmore North Railway station.
