World of James Herriot

A unique tribute to one of Yorkshire’s most famous former residents, the World of James Herriot is devoted to the life and works of veterinary surgeon and author James Alfred Wight, better known by his pseudonym, James Herriot. Over the years, Herriot’s books have sold more than 80 million copies around the world, leading to a number of feature films and a hit BBC TV series, All Creatures Great and Small.
After Wight’s death in 1995, his old veterinary surgery was transformed into the award-winning World of James Herriot attraction, a museum and tourist attraction featuring a recreation of his 1940’s home and the world’s largest collection of Herriot memorabilia. Additional highlights of the World of James Herriot include a lifelike sculpture by Sean Hedges-Quinn, a large exhibit of veterinary instruments, a farrier exhibition and a wartime bunker, as well as costumes and sets from the BBC series, including the original Austin 7 car seen on screen.
