TIME : 2016/2/24 9:53:44

If you've never been to Oktoberfest before, you may be wondering how to survive it all but there’s no need to worry; we have come up with a handy survival guide to help you get the most out of your Oktoberfest experience!

In 2013, the Munich Oktoberfest welcomed nearly six and a half million visitors, who consumed almost seven and a half million litres of beer, over half a million roast chickens and more than 300,000 sausages!

So, if you want to enjoy Oktoberfest like a seasoned expert, then these tips are just for you:

Top 10 Survival Tips:

1. Book your accommodation early, as prices go up closer to the date.

2. A top tip for the first weekend is to go nice and early; tents open around 10am but people often start queuing from 7am onwards; remember, there is no beer until 12pm. Tents generally close around 10-11pm.

3. If you can only be there for one weekend, try the second (middle) weekend, as you will avoid the busy opening and final weekends.

4. Get cash beforehand, as it means that you can avoid the lengthy queues at cashpoints.

5. If you look young, then firstly, congratulations but secondly, do bring I.D. Also note that the drinking age for beer in Germany is 16 and over.

6. Try to avoid carrying a bag and make sure that you keep your valuables close.

7. Be warned that beers come in litre-sized glasses (nearly two pints) and cost around 9-10 euros.

8. Smoking is not allowed in the tents but there are designated areas and plenty of outdoor spaces.

9. Go in small groups, as it's hard to find a big table with lots of seats that's unreserved.

10. If you want to reserve a tent table, you will need to book months in advance.
