Verso Nightclub Opens

Verso, which will be open Friday and Saturday nights, arrives this weekend.

San Francisco has no shortage of bars—particularly of the reclaimed wood and craft cocktail variety—but nightclubs? They are far and few between. This weekend, though, the city finally gets a new space to shake it in the burgeoning Mid Market neighborhood, with the christening of Verso.

The 14,000-square-foot space is next to its sister bar, The Forgery, popular among downtown’s well-heeled nightlife set (don’t expect the fake ID crowd here). Set in a former a printing press, the space nods to its industrial past with exposed brick walls, concrete floors, and soaring ceilings.

Distortion-free speakers and subwoofers ensure clear music for busting moves on the dance floor (and that you’ll still have your hearing the next morning). Server-bartender hybrids will be on hand to shake cocktails tableside, though if wine is your thing, expect a high-end list along the lines of highly coveted lables like Romanee-Conti. In the lounge area, tufted banquettes and cushy sofas boast a refined British club vibe and a place of refuge from the dance floor.
